Education
Education is one of the most important fundamentals for a country’s development. It is the key driver that enable a country to grow and advance in a sustainable way. There are many children who do not have educational opportunities, and never get a chance to study. One of the reasons is that many families do not have adequate financial means to send their children to school. Poverty reduces the chance to receive education and, often times, students have to quit school before graduation due to such reasons.
As such, the Ajinomoto Foundation foresees the importance of education and want to provide opportunities for children that come from poor family and lack financial resources to study. This is the key policy and mission of the foundation to help and support educational development. For the past 9 years since 2006 till today, the Ajinomoto foundation has been awarding scholarships to students with good academics performance but lack financial means, under the program called “Graduate with Ajinomoto Foundation’s Scholarship.”
The program started with awarding 40 scholarships for students studying bachelor degree year 3 and 4 in science major, so that these students can finish their bachelor degree. In 2011, the program increased scholarships to students in year 1 and 2, expanding to a total of 85 scholarships.
In 2012,
the Ajinomoto Foundation continuously expanded scholarships to students in vocational and higher vocational colleges, totaling 300 scholarships. Each bachelor degree student receives 25,000 baht per school year and each vocational or higher vocational student receives 15,000 baht per school year. In 2014, the Board of Directors agreed to increase the amount of scholarship to bachelor degree student, as the costs of studying is high and the foundation wants to provide more support to the students. As such, the scholarship increases to 27,500 baht per school year.
As of today, there are 300 students currently in the program “Graduate with Ajinomoto Foundation’s Scholarship.” This is on top of additional 274 students who have already graduated. The foundation is committed to continue this program to give educational opportunities to good students to help build future of our nation.
